Finding different faces to draw was fun though. The official inktober prompt for day 29 was 'united' and in the current world news, it really feels like we need some people who give us hope for something greater. ... ... Materials used: Uni-ball eye micro UB-150 black waterproof & fade-proof Brustro Technical Pen 0.1 microns Homemade India Ink I wasn't planning to use an ink wash in this piece but changed my mind halfway through. I also didn't really use construction lines for each face which, in hindsight, I know understand why people emphasize on them no matter how skilled you become. Hi, I really enjoyed drawing this one because drawing a woman in traditional apparel used to be one of my staples as a kid. Of course, then, I wouldn't make construction lines and just free-draw the whole thing as I felt like it. Sometimes, I wonder if there is any value in learning the science behind the art... hmm. ... ... As you may have realized by now, coloring is not my strong suit. It never has been and only lately, have I started to use it in an effort to understand it. So, my original intention was to have a grungy look but just before I started using colored pencils for this piece, I changed my mind. Today's artwork is a kinda remake of some floor art I had done years ago. So, every year, I do traditional Indian floor art called Alpana, Muggu or Rangoli, depending on which part of India you ask. In case you are not aware, most households in India have some form of floor art in lieu of a welcome mat. Unlike a welcome mat however, this artwork is washed away and drawn differently every day using rice flour or in today's world, chalk. INKED When I need a reminder that there are shapes on my body that I chose. ... ... Hi! I think I had the 7-day itch or something. It was one of those days I couldn't get the artwork to match the way I had imagined it. I must have redrawn this entire piece at least 60 times trying to get it just right even though it probably was okay the first time round. SMH. It's true that overthinking things is futile. In the entire Inktober prompt list, this was the first one that I could clearly see in my mind's eye and I think that's why I wasn't satisfied just to have it be 'okay'. This is the 'Spring' set from Akashi-ya SAI Watercolor brush pens. At first, I wasn't sure how to grip the brush pens. Should I hold it upright? Should I tilt it like I use paintbrushes? It took me a while to find my rhythm. I still have a long way to go before I can even say that I am comfortable with them. Hopefully, I can use an everyday object like a ballpoint pen to help cope. 'Anger' has been drawn on Fabriano Accademia 120 gsm paper with a Papermate Medium point ballpoint pen. The prompt for this piece is 'poison' for day 3 from the official Inktober 2017 prompt list. I used a few reference pictures from the Internet of angry faces and tried to focus on key micro expressions that show true anger when drawing an angry face.
